Some Nights are Darker than Others...
Once we stood tall and proud, a shining beacon of hope and light to anyone who made their way to our fair city. Our success grew, and our city swelled: funded by the Wayne family, what was once a mere settlement grew over the decades to be a rolling metropolis.
Gotham City.
But amidst the shadows of the great reaching monoliths, evil started to grow. Crime started to rise, as greed infected the hearts of the powerful and the poor were left to suffer. Desperate times forced people into desperate acts, and tragedy struck down the two most influential of Gotham with any decency left. A young man was left an empire and a legacy: to keep Gotham alive, and to improve the lives of its denizens.
However, one person can only do so much, and the darkness kept growing. Mob bosses bought their way into the system meant to throw justice upon them; those meant to serve and protect were paid to turn a blind eye to the suffering and injustice of the weak; Gotham started to wither. Until one night, the sky possessed something more than the sickly lights of an infected city: a light, pure and bright illuminated the sky, carrying with it a signal that the weak would celebrate and the corrupt would fear. The darkness whispered the name of one incorruptible: a dark knight to protect Gotham in her hour of need.
Batman.
He exposed the mob, and began to bring hope back to the people. However, his arrival triggered something in the minds of the crazed, and more than one masked villain began wandering the street: Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow.. The evil began to surface in Gotham, bringing new terrors to its citizens. Not long after, metahumans-- individuals with powers no ordinary human could possess-- and splicers-- those whose genetic sequence has been crossed with the genetic code of another animal-- revealed themselves to the world. Some fight with the Dark Knight; others fight against him.
And then, one day, the unthinkable happened:
Batman disappeared.
Chaos erupted in the underworld.
Joker broke free of Arkham Aslyum.. or was set free by the asylum's head psychiatrist, Dr. Jonathan Crane.
Mob bosses began making moves against each others territory.
The Narrows were claimed by the dangerous and insane-- even the police hesitate to patrol there.
In the East End, a mysterious feline stalks the night, protecting those that live there and punishing those who cross her.
No one knows where Batman is; some think he hasn't truly left and that this disappearing act is just a ruse But others are not so sure, and they're making a scramble for power while they can. The heroes who help protect Gotham are doing what they can and keeping the chaos from truly consuming Gotham, but it's only a matter of time..
The reckoning is upon us.

As you've probably guessed, we're a Batman RP site, newly opened and looking for members!
In a nutshell:
- Batman is missing, and no one seems to know where he is. Likewise, Bruce Wayne was reported as leaving for business overseas a few days afterwards.
- The site is a mix of the dark and realistic Batman Begins and the more fantastical elements of Batman the Animated Series such as splicers and metahumans (Superman, Starfire, etc).
- We're new, so we have almost all cannon characters available.
- We accept original characters.
- We accept characters from DC universe, not strictly Batman.
- We have 30+ boards to rp in.
- The current year IC is 2011. Batman is in his early to mid thirties.
- We're aiming to be a literate to advanced literate site.
- We'll be looking for mods and coders eventually.
- Site plots will be available with increase of members, and personal plots are encouraged.
- We accept humans, villains, metahumans, splicers, heroes, League of Shadow members, and vigilantes. We also accept Gotham Gazette reporters, Gotham City Police Department officers, doctors and lawyers. (We particularly encourage doctors: we're going to need them.)
As previously mentioned, we're new, so we're still working out the kinks of the site, but we're officially accepting applications.
