Is It Worth It?

Hello, everyone. This is Xhalur and I am a recent addition to X-Men: Senseless Cruelty.

While I am not new to the concept of RPing, I must admit that I have reached a rough patch in terms of my current character's development. I am attempting to create something new, but I do not know exactly how well I am faring so far...

Anyway, to repeat the line from my subject thread, is it worth it? By this, I mean is it worth continuing to develop this character, or should I scrap the character and create something else entirely? In terms of mutant abilities/powers, I could easily see him being used in comic, novels, movies, etc., but what I do not know is how effective he would be in terms of an RP forum. Thus, I am currently at an impasse.

If anyone would like to respond with any advice, opinions, suggestions, and/or criticism, it would be well appreciated.

Hi and welcome to SC!

The physical description looks really good to me, and, as someone who likes original powers a lot, I agree that his powers are really interesting from a story point of view.

But yeah, it might be difficult to RP him. At one point I also wanted to make a time-manipulating charrie (he would "live" backwards in time: our future is his past, and his future our past...) but decided to postpone him for a later time.

Essentially, the question is: how are you going to play out your power? As some kind of seven second premonition power? That could work but requires a bit of cooperation with your RP partner.

The other way I can think of is to RP our the 7 seconds and the rewind. That allows you and your RP partner to remain 100% spontaneous. It would also "feel" more real, and less like a premonition-power. It could quickly become tedious if you plan on using your powers several times per thread. Given your charrie has limitations though, that might be ok.

Hm, this almost makes me want to give that shryke-mutant a try.

Thanks for your suggestion(s), Meddling Mage.

In terms of character creation, I always try to do something new and/or different than what has already been done, so as to avoid creating characters with personality cliches, or the same ol' mutant powers (Healing Factors, Shape-shifting, etc.).

In terms of his powers being RPed, I was planning on having reality happen around him as normal, and then "rewind" (as you so put it) events so that he could then theoretically alter them with his new-found knowledge. While this would be an interesting play-style, it does have a lot of drawbacks, as I will probably need Admin. and/or other player-character permission to use it (due to plot-lines, the fact that I am basically "rewritting" events/threads/posts, etc.).

As I mentioned earlier, I could definitely see him being used in another medium (most likely a movie, due to the visualization of his powers), but I am still unsure of how he would fare in a forum-based, play-by-post RP. I will probably take another day or two to ponder my decision, but in the meantime, I will think of other character ideas just in case.

As of August 4, 2011 Retcon has been abandoned as a character concept, and his Character Form is soon-to-be scheduled for deletion.

In his place (hopefully soon, or at least sometime in the near future), a new character concept will be made by me (Xhalur), so that I may be able to more actively participate in X-Men: Senseless Cruelty.
