Please read these rules to help yourself grow more accustomed to the site. They should answer any questions you might have after you've read the Main Rules. Please also feel free to read the FAQ if there is still something you don't understand.
Extended Account Info
Generally, you should keep only one character to each account you have. Although, we do allow 'joint accounts' sometimes. If you have two characters that will be together nearly all the time, then you may put them on the same account (after getting a staff member's permission). But if the characters will only be together in the same thread occasionally, or even never, then you do need to create separate accounts for them.
As for avatars and signature pictures, they must fit your character. You can’t have like a random LiveJournal avatar or something, if it has absolutely nothing to do with your character. Also, huge signature pictures are not allowed and we will remove them if we feel the need. As of now, we are do not have a signature limit. This doesn't mean we are allowing huge pictures, though. Huge pictures will be removed. If a lot of people start using huge signature pictures, we will most likely go back to having a signature limit, like we did before. Don’t abuse the freedom, please.
About Avatars: If you use an avatar that isn't 100 x100, expect it to be cropped and resized. Distorted avatars look bad in general and they also make the forum look bad. If you know how to crop and resize, please do so yourself. If not, that's okay, one of the staff will do it for you. So if you log on one day and your avatar looks slightly different, that's what happened to it.
Number Of Characters
You're allowed to have an unlimited amount of characters. Mutants, humans, canons, as many as you can keep up with. And remember, check out the 'Canon Characters' thread before creating a canon character.
Appearances:
We ask that you use a real person (celebrities, not random people off of Myspace) for your character's PB. Sorry, we no longer allow anime pictures, artist pictures or cartoon pictures to be used. The only drawn pictures we allow are those of X-Men comic book canons. However, if you were using one of these types of images before we instated this rule (July 11, 2010), then you can keep the image with no problems.
Once you have chosen a picture for your character, you must keep that person as your character. People in real life cannot look like Tom Cruise one day, and look like Johnny Depp the next. Anyone caught changing their character's appearance (changing the 'Portrayed By' person) will receive a warning, and be asked to change it back. Exceptions can be made on this rule. But you must PM an admin, asking to change your characters appearance.
Time Forwarding:
No major time forwarding! By major, we mean by years. Weeks and days are fine, but other than that, no big time jumps! You cannot forward the time, because not everyone on SC will age, therefore, it would be weird for the other characters that your character interacts with.
Although, if you only plan on RPing your character with someone else that also wants to forward the time, and only that someone, then we could make an exception. But, like the appearance rule, you have to PM an admin asking about it first.
Housing
Everyone needs a place to stay! Here on SC, there are a variety of places for your character to live. All places would be posted on the same board (the Housing board). You can pretty much make your character live in whatever type of place you'd like, but if you're looking for some suggestions, here are the places that used to be on the site:
Trailers:
Cloverdale Trailer Park is made up of rather nice looking trailers, and would make a pleasant place to live. Brunswick Eagle Trailer Park, on the other hand, is a low-budget, rundown, trashy place.
Apartments:
Dragonfly Apartments is a rather large complex, made up of decent apartments. It would make a nice place to live, especially for people just starting out on their own. But Fox's Apartments is much the opposite. It's a filthy and trashy apartment complex, although it's very cheap to rent.
Houses:
Maple Wood Subdivision is your average subdivision, with a wide range of different houses. Every place there is decent, while some areas are very nice and others are a little rundown. Nothing too bad, though. Turning Stone is a very wealthy community, and all the homes there are large and expensive. Meanwhile, Harmony Acres is where the farming community lives.
Note: When choosing a place for your character to live, please try to be realistic. If your character is dirt broke, they're not going to be able to afford a house. Just keep that in mind.
Xavier's Institute and the Brotherhood's Hideout
If your character is a mutant, they also have the option of staying in either of these places. Any mutant under 18 is welcome to stay at the Institute, as a student. It is a school, after all. And as for characters over 18, there is a detailed explanation for them found here. Your character can also join the X-Men team, if they wish to do so. They'll start out as a Trainee, and with time, Xavier will promote them into a full-fledged team member.
Students will receive a roommate, when the character is approved. Most students share a room, although due to certain mutations and safety issues, there are a few that have their own room. When an admin first assigns your character their roommate, feel free to request any changes. (For example, if your friend RPs on the site too, and you two want your characters to share a room.)
As for the Brotherhood, well, pretty much any mutant is welcome there. Age doesn't matter. All that matters is that the character follows Magneto's orders, and agrees with the idea of mutant superiority. If you want your character to join the "bad guys", it's fairly simple. However, you cannot just have your character waltz into the Hideout. They can't "accidentally" find it, either. It's hidden. Very well hidden. The X-Men can't find it, so neither can your mutant. (So well hidden, in fact, that only characters with the Brotherhood title can view the boards.) So, how does your character join? There are a few ways. If you state in your Join form that the Brotherhood is your character's Affiliation, then your character is automatically given the title, and it automatically with the group. If you decided, after your character was approved, then you can just PM an admin and ask if your character could join then. Or, of course, you could simply ask on the Questions board.
Site-Wide Plots
The admins will no longer be hosting site-wide plots (plots that affect the entire site). The majority of threads on SC are all the players' individual plots anyways, and it was very difficult to constantly manage the slow moving site-wide plots, so we're just not going to run them on the new, shrunken down site.
This doesn't mean that anything major can never happen again. If any members would like to plan and host a major event, then that's great! We ask that you just get permission from an admin before doing something huge, simply because it does affect the whole site. Most likely, we'll be fine with it.
Activity Check
Every four months or so, we'll be having an activity check here on SC. This is to make sure that PBs aren't all wasted on inactive characters, and to keep the roommates list active. You're given plenty of time to reply to the activity check, and if you are indeed active, it should be no problem.
If you do not reply to the activity check, your character will be removed from all lists. Their PB will no longer be reserved, and if they are a student at the Institute, they won't have a roommate anymore. So, if you are active, it is very important that you reply to these checks.
